Council orientation & governance training for multiple Ontario Municipalities

Challenge

With every term of Council, newly elected and returning councillors benefit from training and education to understand their legal, ethical, and procedural responsibilities and the tools and strategies that can help them govern collaboratively and effectively.

Strategy

StrategyCorp has delivered customized Council Orientation and Training sessions for dozens of Ontario municipalities, including Kitchener, Port Hope, Stratford, Collingwood, and Gravenhurst, among many others. Drawing on decades of municipal expertise, we design interactive sessions grounded in real-world scenarios to bring to life the statutes of the Municipal Act and provide them with tangible tools to support good governance. Topics included the roles and responsibilities of members of Council, effective Council-staff relations, codes of conduct, constituent management, meeting effectiveness, and social media and communications practices. Pre-engagement with municipal staff also ensures that each session is tailored to reflect local policies and needs.

Outcome

Councils enter the new term better equipped to fulfill their mandates and make critical decisions, strengthening transparent and accountable governance across Ontario municipalities.
