Canada’s largest cheese acquisition for Kraft / Parmalat

Challenge

Parmalat Canada pursued the CAD $1.62 billion acquisition of Kraft Heinz Canada’s natural cheese division, the largest transaction in Canadian dairy history. The deal required navigating a complex network of stakeholders, including multiple levels of government, employees, farmers, suppliers, consumers, and local communities where facilities operate. Ensuring regulatory approval while maintaining trust and confidence among these groups was critical to success.

Strategy

StrategyCorp partnered with Parmalat Canada’s senior leadership and legal advisors to design and implement an integrated public affairs and communications strategy. The approach focused on positioning the acquisition effectively with stakeholders and creating conditions for regulatory approval.

Outcome

The acquisition was successful, receiving approval from the Government of Canada. StrategyCorp’s integrated government relations and communications strategy played a key role in equipping Parmalat Canada to secure the deal and enabled a smooth transition and a strong foundation for continued corporate reputation management. Following the transaction, StrategyCorp continued to advise Parmalat on corporate communications related to its organizational name change, employee onboarding, corporate social responsibility reporting, and local media relations.
