Advocacy for children’s mental health funding for CMHO

Challenge

Children’s Mental Health Ontario (CMHO), representing nearly 100 community-based agencies across the province, faced a complex advocacy challenge: securing sustained attention and increased funding for children’s mental health services. With member organizations spanning the full continuum of care from prevention to intensive treatment, CMHO needed a unified strategy to highlight the urgency and diversity of care needs across Ontario.

Strategy

StrategyCorp partnered with CMHO to design and deliver an integrated government relations and grassroots mobilization campaign. The #KidsCantWait initiative engaged the public, media, and political candidates to elevate children’s mental health as a policy priority. Through earned and social media, influencer partnerships, and a coordinated grassroots strategy, the campaign demonstrated broad community support and directed that momentum toward provincial decision-makers.

Outcome

The #KidsCantWait campaign achieved province-wide visibility, generating significant media coverage across outlets including CP24, Global News, and CTV. The public engagement and advocacy efforts contributed to the Government of Ontario increasing funding for children’s mental health services by over $125 million.
