Advancing postsecondary policy and workforce innovation for Colleges Ontario

Challenge

Colleges Ontario sought to strengthen its policy influence and expand educational opportunities for students across the province. The organization engaged StrategyCorp to analyze the long-term labour market impacts of COVID-19 and to develop a government relations strategy to advance key policy objectives, including approval for micro-credentials and four-year nursing degrees.

Strategy

StrategyCorp’s Institute of Public Policy and Economy produced The Future of Ontario’s Workers Report, positioning Colleges Ontario as a leader in postsecondary innovation. The paper examined Ontario’s growing skills gap, the need for stronger partnerships between government, industry, and educational institutions, and proposed solutions such as micro-credentialing, flexible course delivery, and reimagined online learning.

Outcome

Released in June 2020, the report and associated advocacy efforts directly informed provincial policy. The Government of Ontario adopted several recommendations, establishing a micro-credential framework and granting approval for colleges to offer four-year nursing degrees.
