Tom Olsen is a seasoned communications strategist and government relations advisor with more than three decades of experience spanning journalism, politics, and the energy sector. He brings deep expertise in narrative development, strategic positioning, and stakeholder engagement across complex and high-profile environments.

As co-founder of OlsenFinley Strategy and Public Affairs, an Alberta-based consultancy, Tom provides counsel to clients navigating communications, reputation, and policy challenges. He is recognized for his ability to align strategic objectives with credible, fact-based storytelling that builds trust and influence.

Tom served as Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Energy Centre, where he led multi-million-dollar national and international campaigns to strengthen understanding of Canada’s role as a responsible and innovative energy producer. He forged productive partnerships across industry and government, advancing data-driven communications and research-based advocacy.

Earlier in his career, Tom was Director of Media Relations for the Premier of Alberta, serving as the province’s spokesperson and senior communications advisor. Before entering government, he spent two decades in journalism, including as provincial affairs columnist for the Calgary Herald and bureau chief of the first-ever joint legislative bureau of the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal.

Tom is known for his calm judgment under pressure, his commitment to credible communication and relationship building, and his deep understanding of the political and reputational dynamics that shape public policy.
