With more than 20 years of executive leadership in the electricity distribution industry, including generation, demand response, and conservation solutions, Tim Wilson brings deep operational and strategic expertise to his role as Senior Advisor. His career includes progressive leadership positions at Thunder Bay Hydro and Synergy North Corporation, where he served as President & CEO from 2021 to 2024. In this capacity, he led multiple affiliated entities, overseeing utility operations, customer service, information technology, renewable integration, and regulatory compliance.
Tim played a key role in the successful merger of Thunder Bay Hydro and Kenora Hydro, leading the financial analysis, feasibility assessments, and full integration strategy that ultimately formed Synergy North. His leadership ensured a smooth transition that enhanced operational performance, regulatory compliance, and long-term value for both communities.
He also has extensive experience in energy policy development and regulatory strategy. Tim contributed to several provincial level working groups, including the market opening of Ontario’s electricity sector, the redesign of electricity planning to reflect regional needs, and the launch and evolution of provincial energy conservation programs. His influence helped shape a more dynamic, customer-focused energy framework in Ontario.
Widely recognized as a strategic thinker, consensus builder, and results-driven leader, Tim brings nearly two decades of board and governance experience. Known for decisiveness and the ability to critically analyze complex information, Tim consistently makes well-informed assessments that drive timely and effective decision-making and strategic outcomes. His roles include Past Chair of the Electricity Distributors Association, Director on the MEARIE Board, and Trustee and Audit Chair of the Affordability Fund Trust, a $100 million initiative supporting energy affordability and well-being for Ontarians.
Tim offers specialized expertise in stakeholder relations, government policy, enterprise systems including IT planning, mergers and divestitures, energy conservation and power system planning. He has led successful negotiations in both unionized and commercial environments and has developed back-office utility services and renewable energy programs throughout Northwestern Ontario.
