John Penner joins current Principals Sabine Matheson, Lisa Samson, John Perenack and Chris Loreto
May 4, 2023 – Toronto, Ontario – StrategyCorp is pleased to announce John Penner as a new principal. In StrategyCorp’s 28th year of business, this move grows our government relations practice and reflects our expertise in the energy and financial services sectors in Canada.
The addition of John as a Principal reflects the success of the integrated service offering we provide. John Penner has almost 20 years of combined experience in the federal government and investment industry, providing strategic advice on public policy, communications, and data analysis.
Prior to StrategyCorp, John provided communications, marketing, and data analytics work for the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, an institutional investor and one of the 10 largest retirement funds in the world.
During his 10 previous years in government, John worked as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Minister of Natural Resources and Minister of Finance. He played a leading role in some of the largest public policy files in Canada, including reforming the energy sector regulatory regime, the sale of AECL and creation of Canada Nuclear Labs, the negotiation of the Lower Churchill hydroelectric project, numerous federal budget initiatives, infrastructure financing, payments policy, and financial sector regulation.
In 2023, John was identified by The Hill Times as one of the “Top 100 Lobbyists in Canada.” In 2015, John was also identified by The Hill Times as one of the “Top 100 Most Powerful and Influential People in Government and Politics.”
