Ontario Releases 2020 Budget

Ontario Minister of Finance Rod Phillips has released the 2020 Ontario Budget, Ontario’s Action Plan: Protect, Support, Recover – the first budget during his tenure as Minister of Finance, and the second budget of the Ford government. Unlike just over a year ago, today Premier Doug Ford enjoys high personal approval ratings, balancing the budget has given way to the need for new program spending to support Ontario families and businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic, and there is a new Minister of Finance at the helm. The circumstances surrounding Budget 2020 stand in stark contrast to last year’s fiscal plan.

With new policy initiatives and commitments such as a seniors home safety tax credit, increased levels of care for long-term care (LTC) residents, and new tax supports for struggling businesses, it is clear the government’s focus remains first and foremost on protecting and supporting Ontario people, families and businesses over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.
