Matthew Segal
Director
Matthew is a Director in StrategyCorp’s Communications practice, including StrategyCorp’s Groundswell program. Matt’s creative and tactical solutions for his clients draw upon his experience leading public affairs and advocacy campaigns over the past 14 years. He specializes in strategic guidance for controversial public policy and reputational matters, with an emphasis on land use, development, zoning, and entitlements.
Matt has directed successful project teams across a variety of industry segments: real estate and land development; mining and aggregates; waste and recycling; energy and environment; public finance and tax incentive programs; telecommunications and technology; and transit and transportation. His expertise led to the creation an industry-recognized program of threat/opportunity assessments for industrial businesses navigating the intersection of market imperatives and reputational challenges at the local and regional level.
Prior to joining StrategyCorp, Matt served as Vice President of Calvert Street Group and as Principal Consultant at Norterra Strategies. A dual United States and Canadian citizen, he previously served in a variety of top roles on American congressional and gubernatorial campaigns. As a member of the American Association of Political Consultants, Matt has been awarded 11 Pollie Awards for electoral and corporate campaigns. He often speaks at industry events about overcoming opposition to controversial development projects.
Matthew has a Bachelor of Arts with First-Class Honours from McGill University and a Master’s Degree from the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California, finishing with the highest GPA in the program. He also has a graduate certificate in Corporate Communications from Seneca College where his cohort awarded him “Best Public Speaker.”
