Joanne Chianello
Media & Municipal
Joanne is a Senior Advisor supporting StrategyCorp’s municipal and public affairs teams. Based in Ottawa, she brings decades of experience in media and municipal affairs.
Before becoming a Senior Advisor, Joanne served as a Manager at StrategyCorp, where she worked with public and non-profit sector clients — including municipalities, sector organizations, and provincial agencies — delivering stakeholder consultation, public engagement strategies, and in-depth policy research.
As part of the Public Affairs team, Joanne has also supported land development clients by navigating evolving political environments, developing government relations strategies, and resolving real-time issues.
Prior to joining StrategyCorp, Joanne was an award-winning journalist with more than three decades of experience at The Financial Post, Ottawa Citizen, and CBC Ottawa. Her investigative work prompted Ontario’s first-ever public inquiry into a transit procurement process and spurred legislative calls for greater accountability of municipal elected officials following her reporting on harassment at Ottawa City Hall.
Joanne is a skilled communicator and writer who is frequently invited to speak at community events and moderate public forums.
She remains an active community advocate, serving on the board of her local community association and as a board member for Ottawa Salus, a non-profit that provides supportive housing and services to adults with serious mental illness and concurrent challenges.
Joanne holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Journalism from Carleton University.
