Conal Slobodin is a Director of Public Affairs in StrategyCorp’s Ottawa office, employing his understanding of the civil service decision-making process, politics, and the machinery of government to inform client strategy and approaches to government relations engagements.
Since joining StrategyCorp in 2017, Conal has helped clients navigate government in fields such as energy, innovation, labour, and natural resources. His experience includes supporting major foreign direct investment decisions, securing federal grants and partnerships, and helping clients influence niche policy outcomes.
As the founder of StrategyCorp’s Northern Practice, he is also the lead consultant for clients looking to achieve their business development and government relations objectives in the Canadian North. He has worked across all three territories, counseling policy-makers and politicians at all levels of government on how to achieve transformational change in infrastructure development, education, corrections, economic development, and tourism.
Prior to StrategyCorp, Conal worked across the federal government on a number of high-profile initiatives, including the Syrian refugee resettlement and the Afghanistan reconstruction mission. He has also worked as a performance auditor for the Auditor General of Canada and as an energy policy analyst for Natural Resources Canada.
Originally from the Yukon, Conal served as a senior political consultant for the Yukon Liberal Party during the 2016 territorial election campaign, in which the party won a majority government. During the campaign, he acted as a strategist and operations coordinator and co-authored the party’s policy platform.
Conal holds a B.A. (Hon.) from Queen’s University and an M.A. in International Affairs from Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Safety Council, a non-profit delivering school zone and road safety programs, training, and services in Ottawa.
